Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
The eyes are the first place to show signs of aging. Dermatochalasis is redundancy and laxity of the eyelid skin. Dermatochalasis may make you look older, tired, or even impair your vision. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin from the upper eyelids and contours the fat and muscle to rejuvenate the aesthetic appearance of the upper eyelids. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed in our office surgical suite under light sedation. Patients can recover at home the same day as the procedure and be performing their normal activities the very next day. Bruising and swelling after upper eyelid blepharoplasty lasts approximately two weeks.
Dr. McDevitt and Dr. Sweeney are fellowship-trained oculoplastic specialists – the only specialty focused on eyelid surgery. In Hawaii, many of our patients have an Asian eyelid which requires expertise and personalized attention to deliver a particular natural or desired appearance after surgery.

Asian Blepharoplasty/Double Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty is sometimes performed on Asian eyelids for a different reason than to reverse signs of aging or removing redundant upper eyelid skin. For Asians who have a single eyelid appearance (sometimes called a monolid), blepharoplasty can be done to create a double eyelid. This is often considered a more westernized look of the eyes and reveals skin visible between the eyelashes and the skin fold – a place where many women like to wear makeup. Asian blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery may help the eyelashes to turn upwards, instead of being pushed downwards. To meet your cosmetic goals for your eyelids, ensure you see an oculoplastic surgeon – the only eyelid specialist – to evaluate and treat your eyelids
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
With age, laxity of tissues and gravity can cause lower eyelid bags. Lower eyelid bags appear as puffiness and dark rings around the eyes which create a tired or aged appearance. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty removes protruding fat in the lower lids and contours the “hills and valleys” of the lower eyelid to create smooth transitions and a more youthful appearance. Generally, lower lid blepharoplasty is performed through a hidden incision on the backside of the eyelid, avoiding a visible scar. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed in our office surgical suite under light sedation. Patients can recover at home the same day as the procedure and be performing their normal activities the very next day. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty may also be combined with laser skin resurfacing to tighten the skin of the lower eyelid to compliment the cosmetic outcome. Nobody knows your eyelids like an oculoplastic surgeon. Call our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sweeney or Dr. McDevitt for lower eyelid blepharoplasty.
Complete Lower Eyelid Restoration – Triple Procedure
Sometimes, the lower eyelids age disproportionally from the rest of the face. In this setting, the lower lids may have puffiness, rings around the eyes, redundant skin, and the white beneath the eye may show. Dr. Sweeney and Dr. McDevitt perform a “triple procedure” to rejuvenate and transform all aging aspects of the lower lid. This is performed by tightening and slightly raising the lower eyelid, contouring excess protruding fat to eliminate puffiness, and performing laser skin resurfacing to treat the redundant skin. The triple procedure for the lower eyelids rejuvenates the midface and significantly reverses the sign of lower eyelid aging.
Over years of conveying facial expressions, the brows can begin to fall with gravity. This eyebrow droop may cause an appearance that is inconsistent with how you feel. Brow droop may also interfere with vision by blocking peripheral vision. Additionally, some patients get headaches from constantly using their forehead to lift droopy eyebrows to see well. An eyebrow lift can raise the brows to a natural height, assist in gaining symmetry between the brows, eliminate forehead-activation headaches, and provide a more youthful appearance. A brow lift can be performed with incisions in the eyebrow or above the hairline. An eyebrow lift is performed in our office surgical suite under light sedation. Patients can recover at home the same day as the procedure and experience minimal downtime. If you are considering an eyebrow lift, call us today for a consultation.
